Z inc-bromide batteries? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of those before.

Drawbacks include:
The need to be fully discharged every few days to prevent zinc dendrites that can puncture the separator.
The need every 1–4 cycles to short the terminals across a low-impedance shunt while running the electrolyte pump, to fully remove zinc from battery plates.
Low areal power (<0.2 W/cm 2 ) during both charge and discharge, which translates into a high cost of power
Yeah, I can see how that’s bad for a consumer product.

Yeah, considering how many people have issues changing oil or even filling windshield washer fluid, asking them to “short the terminals across a low-impedance shunt while running the electrolyte pump” seems like asking for trouble.

Seems like you could do the battery maintenance automatically especially for applications where there would be a known downtime (overnight or whatever).
